Time running out to apply to UQ
The University of Queensland will make 9000 offers for tertiary entry via the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) this week, and will make extra offers in the final offer round next month.
UQ Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Michael Keniger said students could find out if they had received an offer online on Thursday, January 12 for the major QTAC offer round (details at www.qtac.edu.au).
Students had until January 23, 2006 to respond to the offers.
Professor Keniger said a second round of offers would be released on Wednesday, February 1, 2006. January 23 was also the last date to apply, change preferences, or submit documentation for inclusion in the February round.
“UQ will have some places available in this round, with the largest number available for programs at the Ipswich and Gatton campuses,” he said.
“Some places for Arts, Science and other programs will also be available at the St Lucia campus.
“The University of Queensland is offering an additional 150 places in its engineering undergraduate program this year in response to a growing industry demand for engineers.
“Engineering graduates are experiencing employment rates of almost 100 percent and Engineering at UQ is reacting to this industry demand by increasing its first year student intake to 700, a substantial increase from past years.”
Professor Keniger said OP cut-off scores for some programs were not as high as they had been in the past couple of years, and so this presented prospective students with an excellent opportunity to make a late application to study at UQ.
He said UQ was one of Australia’s best universities, winning more Australian awards for University teaching than any other Australian university.
UQ`s three campuses at Ipswich, Gatton and St Lucia offer a wide range of degrees, with the quality and contemporary focus employers seek in both established and emerging professions.
Prospective students can browse all available programs on the UQ Programs and Courses website.
Professor Keniger said applicants who were not offered a place in their ideal programs could consider a number of alternative pathways for improving their chance to enter their desired program at a later date.
