UQ Business School HR courses win accreditation

The quality of UQ Business School's Human Resources teaching has been recognised by the industry's peak body the Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI).

Both the Bachelor of Business Management (Human Resources) and the Master of Business (Human Resource Management) have been accepted for AHRI accreditation.

Acting Director of Postgraduate Studies Dr Polly Parker said AHRI's requirements were stringent.

"Accreditation is a rigorous and demanding process and we're delighted that our courses meet AHRI's high standards," Dr Parker said.

"Students completing the HR major in the Bachelor of Business Management or the Master of Business will be able to join the Australian Human Resources Institute as full members.

"I'm grateful to our industry advisors Samantha Betzien, Peter Cappie-Wood, Lee Dalgliesh, David Douglas, Martin Green, Michael Luhrs, Michael McMahon, Jason O'Dwyer, Marcus Parsons, and Meredith Wilson.

"Their contribution to the accreditation process has been invaluable and they will continue to provide guidance to ensure our programs meet industry needs as the profession evolves."

AHRI spokesperson Lyn Goodear said accreditation of university courses would enhance the profession as well as the careers of individual HR practitioners.

"The 2006 accreditation outcomes represent another significant milestone in the future of the Australian HR profession," Ms Goodear said.

"They enable consistency of outcomes to be achieved across Australian universities and VET programs that offer HR qualifications, and represent another important step towards building the confidence of the Australian business community in the profession.

"Accreditation is granted for three years as long as any curriculum changes in that period are reported to AHRI," she said.
