A new driving force gets behind UQ Rugby

29 March 2007

The University of Queensland Rugby Club has secured the support of Brisbane BMW who have come on board as the club’s principal sponsor for the 2007 season.

One of Brisbane’s leading auto dealerships, Brisbane BMW have stepped in to help the club and will sponsor several community coaching clinics throughout the year.

The announcement was made at the UQ Rugby corporate breakfast at Tattersall’s earlier this month and was great news for local players.

UQ Rugby Club Director Shaun Brown said Brisbane BMW’s assistance would help ensure the longevity of the club.

“Brisbane BMW has provided us with a fantastic opportunity to link with a dynamic, proactive local business.

“The club is excited as we now have the financial assistance needed to continue to develop rugby from the grassroots level.”

Brisbane BMW Marketing Manager Antoinette Yerbury said the company was delighted to be lending their support to the local community.

“By sponsoring coaching clinics we’ll have the opportunity to introduce youth to the sport of rugby and to help develop future Reds players,” Ms Yerbury said.

“We see it as a fantastic way to become actively involved with the community,” she said.

“Brisbane BMW have over the years enjoyed an affiliation with a number of schools and community projects and when the opportunity arose to be part of the team at UQ Rugby we were happy to be involved.

“Already a high proportion of our customers are involved with the University or have an interest in rugby so it was a great fit.”
