Coffee for a cause

To cap off a successful fundraising drive for disadvantaged Brisbane youth, UQ students will be holding a free coffee morning this weekend.

“Sip-Tember” ran from September 8-22, and raised money for a rehabilitation program run by the Brisbane Youth Service (BYS).

BYS is holding a free coffee morning on Saturday, September 25 to celebrate the students’ achievements.

As part of the initiative, students also abstained from alcohol for the duration of the campaign.

Second-year UQ student, Lucy Gummow, said she was proud to make a difference.

“I knew that this small challenge was worth the reward of helping others conquer their addictions,” she said.

Brisbane Youth Services Communication Director Richard Langford thanked the participants for getting behind the cause.

“All money raised from ‘Sip-Tember’ will be donated towards an on-going rehabilitation centre,” he said.

BYS is a not-for-profit organisation that supports disadvantaged youth aged 12-25 years.

Saturday’s event is sponsored by Suburban Grind and will be held in the UQ Amphitheatre, St Lucia from 9-11am. Everyone is welcome to join with a gold coin donation. Prizes will be presented on the day to the top fundraisers.
