UQ researcher awarded $2.6 million to combat chronic disease

21 April 2023

A University of Queensland (UQ) researcher has been awarded $2.6 million from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the Research Council of Norway, through the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD).

Associate Professor Abdullah Mamun from the UQ Poche Centre for Indigenous Health is investigating ways to address common chronic disease risk factors through interventions that enhance positive health and lifestyle behaviours in young and vulnerable populations.

Recognised as an international leader in areas of life course epidemiology, Associate Professor Mamun has been awarded funding to research the implementation of a life course approach in antenatal and postnatal care settings in Nepal.

His previous research has made significant contributions to understanding the critical stages of life and early life determinants of health.

The GACD connects national and international funding agencies, including the NHMRC to build collaboration across a wide pool of global expertise in priority research areas.
