UQ researcher awarded Australian Laureate Fellowship

19 June 2024

A University of Queensland researcher has been awarded more than $3.4 million through the Australian Research Council’s (ARC) prestigious Australian Laureate Fellowship scheme.

Professor Gabrielle Belz’s research aims to understand how the linings of the gut and lungs protect the body by triggering immune responses or repairing damage.

Her work is expected to advance drug and vaccine development and delivery for the benefit of Australian society, the biomedical technology sector and the economy.

The ARC awarded a total $58.3 million for 17 Australian Laureate Fellowships in 2024, supporting research and innovation in priority areas and strengthening links among the international research community and industry.

UQ remains the most awarded university for ARC Australian Laureate Fellowship funding since the scheme began.
