UQ research recognised in world rankings

The University of Queensland has ranked first in Australia in four subject areas in the 2024 National Taiwan University (NTU) Rankings. 

The University maintained its overall position as fourth in Australia in addition to topping the national table for Agricultural Sciences and Environment/Ecology for the sixth consecutive year. 

Other subjects where UQ ranked first in Australia were Chemical Engineering, and Environmental Science and Engineering. 

UQ ranked in the world’s top 50 for 13 subjects: 

  • Environment/Ecology (6th) 
  • Environmental Science & Engineering (12th) 
  • Agricultural Sciences (13th) 
  • Social Sciences General (17th) 
  • Pharmacology & Toxicology (20th) 
  • Plant & Animal Science (23rd) 
  • Microbiology (25th) 
  • Psychiatry/Psychology (25th) 
  • Biology & Biochemistry (33rd) 
  • Chemical Engineering (37th) 
  • Economics and Business (44th)  
  • Materials Science (46th) 
  • Molecular Biology and Genetics (50th) 

Overall, the University ranked 40th in the world, reflecting the global impact of its scientific research.  

More than 1200 universities worldwide were ranked on their overall scientific paper performance, research productivity, impact and excellence.
