UQ researchers secure $1.7m for medical research

3 April 2025

University of Queensland researchers have secured more than $1.7 million from the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) for two projects aiming to find ways to better tailor healthcare systems.

Professor Claire Jackson will lead a team awarded more than $1.2 million to create a scalable healthcare model designed to screen for frailty and provide a coordinated healthcare management plan for older Australians in Western Queensland.

The project aims to promote healthy ageing and could reduce emergency department and hospital visits among at-risk Australians.

Professor Dr Bushra Nasir will lead a team awarded more than $500,000 to enable digital healthcare delivery models in rural Indigenous communities.

This research aims to transform virtual healthcare for Indigenous populations across Australia by using consumer-led and culturally informed frameworks.
