UQ researcher named Tall Poppy of the Year

Associate Professor Janni Leung has been jointly named Queensland’s 2025 Young Tall Poppy of the Year – the scheme’s highest honour.  

The prestigious title is presented by the Australian Institute of Policy and Science (AIPS) to recognise outstanding early- to mid-career researchers. 

Dr Leung is an NHMRC Development Fellow at the National Centre for Youth Substance Use Research (NCYSUR) whose research focuses on the correlation between substance use and mental health, aiming to reduce addiction-related harm. 

Dr Leung jointly received the award alongside Dr Brittany Mitchell from QIMR.
