UQ and ANZ partner to advance key QLD initiatives

28 May 2025

The University of Queensland has partnered with the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ) to drive research and training in environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices, energy, and agricultural technology.

This is one of two ANZ-led collaborations aimed at strengthening Queensland’s economy including a second partnership with Griffith University focused on advancing technology, cybersecurity, and agricultural innovation.

UQ Executive Director of Strategic Partnerships Shannon Willoughby said the University was keen to bring the depth of its research leadership in energy transition to the collaboration.

“The University has a suite of strengths, amplified by innovations in sustainable agriculture, smart grid technologies, and ESG-integrated policy frameworks, all underpinned by globally recognised expertise in environmental and agricultural sciences that drive scalable impact,” Ms Willoughby said.

ANZ Managing Director Queensland and Suncorp Bank Chief Executive Officer Bruce Rush said: “We are deeply committed to unlocking the full potential of the Queensland economy, and our strategic partnerships with both universities are a testament to that vision.

“Together, we’re building a Queensland pipeline of skilled talent, boosting student’s readiness for the jobs of the future, right here in the Sunshine State, as well as unlocking insights that will help drive progress across some of Australia’s most critical economic sectors,” Mr Rush said.

As part of the partnership, UQ will lead a research and modelling project on future ESG reporting requirements in Queensland.
