Statement issued by The University of Queensland on the Green Bridge proposal
The University of Queensland Senate will formally consider a proposal relating to the construction of a bridge from Dutton Park to, but not through, the University’s
St Lucia campus at its next meeting on October 9.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor John Hay, said the joint Brisbane City Council-UQ “charette”, or architectural design discussion process, had resulted in proposals which were discussed at a special meeting of the Senate on September 12.
“Senate members engaged in a full and constructive discussion on the proposed pedestrian, cycle and bus bridge between Dutton Park and UQ’s St Lucia campus,” Professor Hay said.
He said the charette process – initiated by the BCC and the University earlier this year to address the issue of bus, pedestrian and bicycle access to and from the St Lucia campus – had provided a valuable basis for the Senate’s deliberations.
