UQ Music School performs last concert at QPAC for 2004

The University of Queensland’s School of Music will present the last of its 2004 Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) concert series on Sunday, August 29, in the Concert Hall at Southbank.

The concert, entitled From Brahms to Bracanin, will be a combination of musical pieces by Brahms and UQ School of Music Head, Professor Philip Bracanin.

Under the direction of Maestro Werner Andreas Albert, the UQ Symphony Orchestra will perform Brahms` violin concerto with violinist Melinda Stocker as soloist. Brahms` Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny) will be performed with the UQ Chorale.

The program will start at 2pm with Professor Bracanin`s Clocktower and conclude with three popular folk-inspired Slavonic dances by Dvorak.

Professor Bracanin said the concert would thrill lovers of Brahms’ music, who would be privileged to her the UQ Symphony Orchestra perform under the baton of internationally-acclaimed conductor.

Professor Bracanin said Clocktower was music intended for the enjoyment of all ages and involved contrasting episodes of youthful exuberance and reflective nostalgia.

The concert series is presented in partnership with QPAC and support by the UQ Alumni Association. The series started in 2003 and has received outstanding public response since, with most concerts being sold out.

Music students have also benefited from the experience of working with QPAC and have gained insight from the professional technical and on-stage direction from concert staff.
