Young innovators in high school will now be able to get a head start on the road to becoming future entrepreneurs.

The University of Queensland startup pre-incubator UQ Idea Hub has expanded its program to the leaders of tomorrow with its Idea Hub Discovery initiative.

UQ Idea Hub Director Nimrod Klayman said the program allowed senior high school students interested in entrepreneurship and innovation to gain an insight into the startup and business space.

“They’ll get to experience the process of bringing an idea to life through hands-on and interactive activities,” Mr Klayman said.

“Students will also gain an entrepreneurial mindset and learn skills essential to success in their future working life.

“These entrepreneurial skills will help their learning and their ability to develop, compete, design and reinvent their professional career throughout life.”

UQ Idea Hub started in 2015 and is a practical program that provides UQ students, staff and alumni with the knowledge and support to begin their startup journey.

It has become a key part of the UQ entrepreneurship framework with more than 1000 students completing the intensive extracurricular program.

The Idea Hub Discovery initiative has been launched after a successful pilot program at Indooroopilly State High School in 2017.

The high school program is open to all Queensland secondary schools, with St Peter’s Lutheran College the first to take part in the course.

Schools interested in the program can email UQ Idea Hub Entrepreneurship and Relationships Manager, Cayetana Martinez at cayetana.martinez@uq.edu.au.
